EDS-2005-EL Overview

Introduction

HSR/PRP Redundancy Module is a specialized, plug-in Redbox (Redundancy Box) engineered specifically for the IESMGR 6028 Series rack-mount switches. This modular approach allows system architects to integrate legacy or non-redundant end devices into high-availability architectures without the expense of a full forklift upgrade of existing IEDs or controllers.

Functionally, the module provides unparalleled versatility by supporting both HSR (IEC 62439-3-5) and PRP (IEC 62439-3-4) protocols, with the specific redundancy mode being easily configurable via software. This adaptability ensures that the network infrastructure remains agile, capable of evolving alongside shifting operational requirements or international standards. By leveraging a dedicated FPGA-based hardware architecture, the module delivers a "Zero Recovery Time"and "Zero Packet Loss" environment, providing the deterministic performance required for the most demanding real-time industrial applications.

The module’s hardware architecture features high-density dual Gigabit ports and a high-speed backplane interface, enabling the seamless integration of Singly Attached Nodes (SANs) into the redundancy fabric as Doubly Attached Nodes (DANs). This FPGA-driven design ensures that redundancy tasks are offloaded from the main CPU, maintaining high communication efficiency and line-rate performance. These capabilities translate into a robust, future-proof network capable of supporting the next generation of industrial automation.
