Introduction

In the landscape of modern industrial automation, the GW IPC 02 serves as a critical strategic bridge between high-speed EtherCAT master systems and the vast ecosystem of Modbus-enabled devices. By facilitating seamless bidirectional communication between real-time Ethernet backbones and legacy or distributed serial and TCP networks, this converter ensures that operational visibility is maintained across all levels of the automation hierarchy. The primary function of the GW IPC 02 is to operate as a high-performance EtherCAT slave, effectively mapping Modbus data into the EtherCAT process data image. Positioned as a gateway within the network, it allows EtherCAT-based controllers to access data from field devices that would otherwise be incompatible, streamlining the integration of specialized sensors, motor drives, and power meters into a unified control environment.

The device offers exceptional versatility by supporting both Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP protocols simultaneously, with the capacity to manage up to 32 Modbus RTU slaves and 8 Modbus TCP slaves. Its integrated edge capabilities allow for the collection and computation of up to 2,000 data points locally. This decentralized approach shifts processing tasks away from the central PLC, reducing network overhead and improving the deterministic performance of the primary control loop.
